Every visit had a purpose and a significance.. However, the reasoning against multiple foreign visits are also strong - lack of concentration on hume turf and people who helped him win this decisive mandate. I agree, there are ministers with specific portfolios who are working in India.

I feel PM should have concentrated on India in the first year and should have spread out his visits.. From a political perspective, he will concentrate on India during 4th and 5th year of government for obvious reasons.. :)BGThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14949058048585399102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8964215896987873803.post-84729503229993231932015-06-10T07:58:45.459+05:302015-06-10T07:58:45.459+05:30So true Mridula. And the problem of farmers is deeper than just giving them funds for aid. Regarding the increase in taxes, this is where the GST will be useful... The initial move of charging more in taxes is to compensate the state more, probably because the previous govt left our coffers empty.

This govt is trying to fix problems at the core - it's trying to boil the whole milk vessel instead of simply waiting for the cream and disappearing. I am loving all these diplomacy moves that Modi is making. I only hope that his PR machinery helps in propagating the purpose of these visits more widely. We know how common media functions, and it just tends to feed Modiphobia more. Also, I do wish that his government announces some concrete steps towards two burning problems -- rising prices of food grains etc. as well as humongous service tax rates and also the problem of lost crops of farmers. I recently toured Rajasthan and was horrified to see the damage done to standing crops. And also was shocked to pay almost 33% taxes on my eating out bill. The steep increase in service taxes is hurting everyone not to mention the increase in fuel prices too. These directly concern the aam aadmi who only sees just like the Shiv Sena mouthpiece mentioned that India is swift to announce $1bn aid package to Mongolia but has no money to help its own poor farmers.
